ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played multiple sports throughout her early years, but did not play soccer until she reached 14. After graduating from high school, Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team. They took home the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and finished third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to train at Diamond Bar High School, where she improved her soccer abilities. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) picked Morgan to be an All-American Athlete. She was also a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan completed her soccer journey at UC Berkeley, where she was the leader of the California Golden Bears team in scoring from the very beginning of the season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice making it to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalists for Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010 and was ranked third among all-time scoring goals, points and assists. Morgan was a soccer player at both the collegiate and national levels throughout her time at school. The first time she was on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury which barred her from training with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. Following that, she scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan took part in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she scored four goals and receiving the gold medal among other accolades.Morgan was then recruited by the senior national team where she was substituted, and scored several crucial goals. One of these was a win goal against Italy which secured the U.S. team a final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both either a goal or assist.
