Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artist gymnast. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams that have won individual team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals in floor and team competitions and also the bronze medal on the balance beam, which made her the most recognized American gymnast in the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition with her teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans who won back-to-back gold team medals. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around and for floor exercise. She is the third-highest accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history, following Shannon Miller and Simone Biles and has won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a part of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist in the world championships on floor exercise in 2011. She is also a two time national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She also is five times a national champion in all-around competitions at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011, 2012 and 2012 and). She was inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on 25 May 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast, as well as Rick Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A and the Jewish community all over the world. Raisman began gymnastics at age 18 months. She credits her first love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics which she saw on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was working towards the Olympics.
